A Call to Stop the Violence

PETITION TO PROMOTE THE SEASON FOR NONVIOLENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS

Because the children and youth of our country, the United States of America, are surrounded and besieged by violence in many forms...

We, the undersigned, petition President Barack H. Obama, all members of
Congress, all fifty state legislatures, all city and town councils, and all local
school boards...

To work for the passage of legislation that allows and encourages students
to participate in activities in their school clubs and after school programs that promote nonviolence and that introduce students to the Season for Nonviolence and the Pledge of Nonviolence.

Let a committee of the student council be in charge of celebrating the Season
for Nonviolence from January 30th to April 4th, the assassination dates of
Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. respectively.

Let the ideals of nonviolence resound in the halls of our educational institutions
and give students a voice for peaceful relationships as they face violence in
their daily lives.
